New Year, New Goals

I’m so thrilled that 2015 has finally started. Not that I didn’t like 2014 but there’s something about a new year. It’s like starting a new chapter in your life.

In 2014 I did lots of fun stuff. The most memorial thing I did was going to LA. I wrote a few posts about it on my blog but then I stopped though. For me, it was the best trip I’ve ever made in my life. I visited so many places and met so many people. Also, I finally had the chance to visit my sister Julie who’s living near Redondo Beach. I still think about this vacation every day and I know that one day I’ll definitely be going back.

To afford this trip, I had to make money so I got a job in a restaurant in my town. It definitely isn’t my dream job but it’s nice to have left some money at the end of the month.

This summer I went to Albufeira with my boyfriend Francis and his friends. I had a great time but I wouldn’t do it again. It couldn’t beat my road trip in the United States. I rather save my money and go to a more exciting place. Don’t get me wrong, I found it so cool to go with my friends but they’re boys and they like to party a lot which is totally not my thing.

In 2014, I also made some great friends. My best friends are called Felien en Elien and we did lots of fun stuff this year, like going to the gym together and meet up for our dinner dates. We had this idea to every now and then cook for each other which is the best. I’ll insert some pictures here in which you can see what we created.

6tag_160814-235856 6tag_080814-183431     We also went to a friend of ours to enjoy a fun jacuzzi night with some drinks.

In July, I met up with some girls of high school. I really don’t drink that often, in fact I almost never drink but that night, they got me drunk! I think I had more mojito’s than I should… 😉

Fitness-related, not a whole lot has changed. I still work out 5 times a week (or at least I try to). However this year I started weight training. I always got a little bit scared when seeing all those machines and big guys in the gym but now I know that I don’t need to feel like that. I’m very disciplined and in September (when I really started focussing on weights) I started to notice some muscle definition. I’m so pleased with the results!

One of my goals for 2014 was to make videos again. A few years ago, making videos was my passion. I started filming again a few weeks back. If you would like to see some of my videos, you can go to my Youtube channel!

Something else that I really enjoyed doing was taking cooking classes. Every Thursday we made a 3-course menu. Although a lot of times I didn’t really like the food we made, I found it very relaxing to actually take the time to cook a whole meal.

10811543_10200111918518724_1613609265_n2014 was a great year but not the best. In December I struggled a bit with myself. I had exams, didn’t feel good about myself; the weather has been bad (I hate winter) and I worried a lot about all the changes that I’m going through.  Maybe I’ll write a post about this topic in the future.

Here are some pictures (taken in 2014) that make me happy:

USA ROADTRIP: PART 2

On day 3, Bas and I started our actual road trip. We first went to Trader Joe’s to buy some healthy snacks. Of course, I had to get something with peanut butter too. What I really noticed was the huge amount of bars they offered. I liked cliff bars the most, in particular the one with peanut butter and chocolate. We got fresh fruit and veggies, humus and guacamole, salads, bars and seaweed. Time to leave LA! 10603434_10152225281761008_4765736955555835419_n This day we went to Joshua Tree, our first national park. It struck to me how lonely it was there. I thought national parks would be much more crowded. By the time we got there, it was lunch-time already. We had a picknick at one of the picknick-areas and ate our delicious quinoa salad. 10690220_4785191405698_7804781186615510446_n Later on, we walked for almost one hour through the park. There was a pathway that we could follow but Bas wanted to walk his own path. Suddenly we saw a turtle. How cool is that?! We also made some pictures on the rocks because there are lots of these in the park.

When we got back in the car, Bas told me he saw the skin of a snake on the pathway. That’s why he wanted to walk his own path! He knew I’m extremely afraid of worms (I’m sure you can call it a fobia…) so you could imagine how my relation with snakes would be.

We then drove to Kingman, a town on route 66. I thought driving on route 66 was absolutely legendary. That night we slept in a motel that had the biggest bed EVER…

To be continued…

September & October Goals

I haven’t done one of these in a while but since making goals are my life, I wanted to share a few new ones that I want to achieve at the end of October.

  1. Make an aftermovie: I went on a road trip to the West (coast) of the USA and I filmed a lot with Francis’ Gopro. Since I haven’t made that much pictures, I want to make an aftermovie as a memory of this incredible trip.
  2. Read ‘The Little Book of Mindfulness’: I bought this book in Urban Outfitters. It immediately got my attention because I love being mindful about things. It helps me to get relaxed instead of stressed. I would even like to write about things that I’ve read and that I use or do in my daily life routine.
  3. Train for ‘my’ half marathon: A few weeks ago I ran 15K for the first time. I did it in 1h27min which I feel is a great time. Afterwards I felt so excited about the distance I ran. I felt like my body was capable to run even more so I set a new goal. At the end of November I want to run 21k or half of a marathon. I’ll keep you updated every now and then.
  4. Cut out soda: When I was in America, I didn’t drink any soda at all. I hope I keep on remaining this good habit.
  5. Buy new clothes for my autumn/winter wardrobe: I literally don’t have autumn or winter clothes. I’m thinking about going for a lot of dresses this year because I love how easy it is to put on. Also, I want to get a new pair of long leather boots. What about writing a post with styles I like?

Enjoy your Sunday

USA ROADTRIP : PART 1

10410117_4750155889832_1040138500206969806_n

September has been crazy. The 1st September, Francis and I were two years together. We went swimming in a tropical indoor swimming pool. Afterwards, we decided to go out for dinner. We really enjoyed that day a lot. That night he stayed at my house because the next day he would drive me to the airport. That’s because my cousin, Bas, and I were going to the USA to go on a road trip to the West (coast) of the USA.

Our first stay would be LA. After arriving in LAX, we first had to get our rental car. We chose the jeep which we thought was pretty big. However, our car was nothing like compared to all the cars LA people were driving.

10511119_4758953949778_134273671680463765_n

I was very tired after being on a plane the whole day so the only thing I wished for at that point was a bed. We had booked a room in the Samesun hostel in Venice. This was my first experience with hostels. I liked it for one night but I wouldn’t recommend it because the bathroom was kind of dirty, in particular the shower.

Anyway, the next day we wandered around at the beach. We met a black guy who wanted us to listen to ‘his’ music. We liked the guy so we bought his CD for 5 dollars. Little did we know that we would listen to that CD the whole trip.

After seeing Venice Beach, we decided to get a green juice at Kreation, an awesome place at Abbot Kinney if you enjoy food but still want to keep it clean. After visiting some shops at Abbot Kinney, we headed to Hollywood where we saw Beverly Hills and the Walk of Fame. We thought this was a little bit of faded glory. To eat, we went to this awesome Mexican place where we ate the best fish tacos.

We ended our day in USA hostels in Hollywood. We met an Asian guy who was pretty cool too. This hostel was way nicer because everything was better organized; the kitchen was bigger and the bathroom was very clean.

10513303_4785191085690_1326809725597422906_n

The next day, we decided to get our work out done. We hiked all the way up at Runyon Canyon. In the end, we got a view over the valley and we could even see the Hollywood sign. Then, we met Bas’ friend Zoe in Koreatown. They first met in Israel and Bas contacted her again because back then, she said that if he would ever go to LA, he should come to visit her. He sent her an email and we could couch surf at her place. Actually it wasn’t hers but the house of her two moms. They lived in Venice and were the coolest parents ever (after mine… DUH).

Back to Koreatown! Zoe wanted us to guide through LA but she didn’t want to show us the most obvious touristic attractions. In Koreatown we got a Chinese foot- and body massage. I even fell asleep. Then we went to this all you can eat Korean BBQ restaurant. Sadly enough, I can’t remember its name anymore. I was so stuffed after that meal that I couldn’t eat anything else that day.

10676398_10152223610601008_2810314952317945184_n

After eating, we wanted to chill for quite a bit. We wandered around and saw a golf court above a parking lot. We also went to Union Station, Grand Central Market and the oldest street of  LA. To end the day, we went to this arty district of the city. We met camera men who were filming a documentary for National Geographic. They needed two persons for a scene. Bas and I wanted to be in NG of course so we did our first acting job ever there. This was so cool.

We only went to the house when it was already 10pm. I was so tired because we had done so much that day. I knew I had to sleep well because the next day we would start our actual road trip…

To be continued.

April Favorites

IMG_2206

  1. Dove Summer Glow : I’ve been using this product non-stop and I love it. It’s a tanning body lotion so it nourishes your skin but it also gives you a tan. Obviously this isn’t like a self tanner but I think it looks very natural.
  2. Touch of Happiness Body Cream (Sweet Orange & Cedar Wood) : This was one of the products that came in the set that I got from Francis. This body cream smells heavenly. It’s very strong and very herbaceous. Whenever I put this on my skin, I feel fancy.
  3. Rituals Mild Facial Cleansing Milk : This product is perfect for me because it’s very soft on the skin and gentle too. It contains Lotus Flower and Moringa Extract so it smells delicious. My skin feels really clean after I’ve used this milk and my make up really does come off easily.
  4. Rituals Refreshing Facial Toner : I use this in combination with my cleansing milk. This toner also contains Lotus Flower and Moringa Extract and it’s perfect to remove the remaining impurities. This is the ultimate finish to your cleansing ritual.
  5. Maybelline Superstay Better Skin : This foundation promises you an instant even skin tone and a better looking skin in 3 weeks. I don’t know if this is true but I do believe that my skin looks better lately. The foundation is a little bit thicker than the ones I used before so you really have to work fast when blending it in onto your face. It contains SPF20 and I use the color ‘030-Sand’.

Did I Succeed in My April Goals?

IMG_1836I made a lot of awesome walks. Towards the end of the month, I did that same route but at that time, I ran it. I became that person that needs to go outside at least one hour each day.

10312135_4314130909480_1702295081_nThis picture was made right after a one hour weight training workout and a half an hour run. My boyfriend said that I look great in this picture. He defined it as energetic, bright and healthy. I love when he says such thing because I feel like he really understands how good I feel after a good workout. Oh and I’m wearing my brand new top from H&M. I love the minty color.

My second goals was to blog more and I guess I blogged more than usual this month but towards the end, I forgot about it.

I didn’t make my own healthy macaroons which I’m sad about. The main reason is that I didn’t have all the ingredients at home. I’m definitely going to try them in the future though.

I also wanted to make my own popsicles this month. I made them but never really blogged about it just because I couldn’t give an exact recipe. There are so much varieties, you know. I just cut up fruit and put it in the popsicle and then added some liquid to fill it up.

After I’ve reflected on my previous goals, I’ll always write down my goals for the new month. Here are 4 goals for May :

  1. I want to run at least 3, maybe 4 times a week. I prefer to do it after my weight training work out. Most of the times I run about half an hour.
  2. Juicing really prevents my skin from blemishes. I’ll try to juice every day.
  3. This will sound weird but I really want to focus on my studies. I find it really hard to stay concentrated sometimes. This month I really need to try my best because in June, I’ll have exams.
  4. I want to do a post ‘What I Ate’. I’ve seen it on other blogs and I find it very interesting to see what other people eat in a day.

What would you like to reach this month?

Margot

Fit for Summer

Dear reader

First of all I want you to wish a very happy Easter. I hope you have a great day. This post will be a little different. I won’t do a ‘My Week on Instagram’ because I don’t really have pictures of my week. Instead, I’m going to start a new series : Fit for Summer or #FFS.

10c7066812a3ad759b847efc8b0d504dFirst things first : I’m so excited to tell you about this road trip I’m going to make with my cousin this summer. We are going to do the West Coast of the USA, one of my biggest dreams ever! The West Coast has a lot of canyons and national parks. That means that I will have to be very fit because we will do a lot of hikes. It will be very hot in the places where we will go so I need to be in the perfect body condition.

Yesterday, I came up with the idea to share my journey with you. Every week, I will post something different. This week I’ll start with running.

I’m going to start running again. I have times that I will run four times a week but I also have times that I won’t run for like weeks in a row. A routine is necessary to keep up with it.

  • I’ll try to run at least 3 times a week, 4 times would be even better.
  • I’ll start with running an average speed. The longer I can run, the better.
  • I’ll run outside but only where there are good running tracks and also on the treadmill.

Today I did my first run. I went to my favorite place to walk. I think it’s very important for your knees to run on a good running track. The one I did had wood chips and gravel. I did a 35 minute run which was perfect. I ended by walking to get my heart rate down. Then I did some stretching which is really important.

I hope you enjoyed my first ‘fit for summer’. Would you like to know something specific about me. Let me know!
